The lion-headed column capitals of Persepolis date back to the Achaemenid period (around the 5th century BCE).

These sculptures, often showing paired animals such as lions, were used to support wooden roof beams while also serving a symbolic purpose.

The lion represented power, protection, and royal authority, reflecting the strength and stability of the empire.
